Second Term FEBRUARY 22 - MARCH 29
Portraits of Jesus in the Gospel of John — Les Bennett (JANUARY 4 - MARCH 29) — The Gym
Before the advent of photography important historical figures were most commonly immortalized through having their portraits painted. Viewing an authentic portrait enables us to feel like we know that person to some extent. But there is no authentic portrait of Jesus, the most famous person who ever lived. Or is there? In his Gospel, John actually gives us a series of word portraits of Jesus. Each week we will attempt to view one or two of these portraits in order to more fully know Him. When we recall Jesus’ statement, “Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father!” (John 14:9), we can appreciate the value of “seeing Jesus.” Join us for this twelve-week viewing of John’s word portraits of Jesus.
Living Boldly as God’s Child: Overcoming Fear with Biblical Motivations — Alex Clayton (FEBRUARY 22 - MARCH 29) — Room 25
In this life-changing study, we journey through six powerful, Scripture-based motivations that replace fear with unshakable confidence, hope, and joy: These six motivations are rooted in Scripture and structured to move you from fear to thanksgiving, then to hope of reward, and finally to joy, love, and grace. Each one is a powerful truth to declare over your life when fear rises. “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” – 1 John 3:1
Faith Habits — Kelli Randolph (FEBRUARY 22 - MARCH 29) — Room 16
Col. 3:10 says, Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. When we are baptized, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit – but that’s just the beginning. God offers us continual transformation that lasts our whole lifetime. In Romans 8 Paul reminds us that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. Does your life feel like you have that kind of holiness living inside you? Spiritual formation is about seeking a deeper connection with the Spirit so that we trust and serve God more fully. We must intentionally make room for the Spirit, by developing and maintaining a rhythm of faith habits that keep us open and available to God. In John 1, Jesus invites us to “Come and See”. Not just to watch the river or hear the river but to dive fully into it and be immersed. God is already fully present. We only need to show up, listen and follow His leading. If you’re ready to establish new practices for a transformative life more deeply connected to God, this class is for you. Dive in, the water’s fine!
Lent for Families: Ways to Include Children for Spiritual Growth — Eric Manlove (FEBRUARY 22 - MARCH 29) — Room 26
Lent is a time of reflection and prayer that has been practiced for generations by adults. This class will be looking at practices that families can use to involve their children for the coming of Easter. This is not a daily activity class but one that will center on weekly themes (gratitude, prayer, fasting, giving, rest) that families can incorporate into their regular weekly routines. Please join as we walk this Lenten road remembering our Savior and looking towards celebrating his resurrection.
