"Read the same scripture every day for 40 days? You have to be kidding me!"

I know that was the reaction of some of our folks as we began a special journey into God's Word together this summer. For the next 40 days (June 7 - July 16) our church family will be reading the parable of the prodigal every day. Now most of us have done a 'read through the Bible' program at one time or another. We just finished a 99 day schedule of reading through the New Testament. But this daily Bible reading is different. The 21 verses that make up Luke's story of the prodigal son who wasted his Father's wealth provided an amazing window into the heart of God. Already, some are commenting on how God is revealing himself in a dynamic way as they focus on this simple, yet profound story. As one member commented, "It's amazing what you find when you just kind of soak in the scriptures."

But there's more here than just reading and reflecting. The staff will be sharing their thoughts and insights on our 40 DAYS WITH THE FATHER blog. As they did during our 99 days through the New Testament, each day one of our team will help us go deeper into the character of the Father and draw us closer to His nature by writing about their own perspectives on this parable.

"Writing these reflections on scripture have really opened my eyes to the Lord's living Word and allowed Him to convict my heart according to His beautiful will." said Jenna Thomas, one of our youth ministers.

So won't you join us on this journey into the heart of God? It's easy to do: Just read and reflect on Luke 15:11-32 every day from now until July 16. You might try reading it using different versions. Then follow the blog hitting the 40 DAYS WITH THE FATHER button on the homepage or clicking here. You can even leave a comment and your own thoughts as well. You may be surprised on how much light God has to shine on even a small piece of His word!

God bless you as you reflect on His Word daily,

Jeff Walling
Senior Minister
